I had the opportunity to go on the air again with the Dave Madeira Show from 94.3 The Talker to talk about the 11th Annual tecBRIDGE Business Plan Competition. I was honored to be the MC the evening and help present the top Business Plan Awards and enjoyed going on the air for a bit to highlight the event.
The award ceremony was held at the Mohegan Sun Arena again this year in their ballroom with over 200 of the areas top business and entrepreneurial minds. There were some amazing ideas and well executed plans on display. On the Collegiate side, the e-commerce company Besta Cork took home first prize, with some more technology-centric plans from OmniKast and The Student Exchange coming in 2nd and 3rd. I thought Besta Cork had the most straightforward model in a trendy market, but it will be hard to argue with OmniKast’s market for cloud security in the longer run as that industry explodes over the next couple of years.
On the non-collegiate side, 3D printing and prototype experts Innovatrix Labs took home the gold. A medical device company, Med-Dev Corp, focused on reducing staph infections in hospitals and BeerHaha, a social network for beer and beer lovers, came in 2nd and 3rd.
It was an honor to be asked to speak at the occasion, especially since Kuhcoon, the social media company for which I now work, came out of this very competition last year. I want to wish a big congratulations to all of those that participated, and a big thank you to all of the sponsors and attendees. It was really a special night. Having been at a number of networking outings and in helping to promote POWER! Wilkes-Barre as their Marketing Director, I can say that this was an event that you did not want to miss. I’ll post some pictures and any media we have of the event over the next couple of days.
